Dave Stewart about Hall & Oats in the liner notes of the Hall & Oats box set:

“I first heard Hall & Oates when I went to see them play live in the UK at Newcastle City Hall in the ’70s. I was stunned at the vocal performances and the sheer joy they seemed to have whilst performing their even then amazing song collection. Years later whilst working with Daryl in the studio on Three Hearts In The Happy Ending Machine I realized his love of singing and playing music was burning so bright that it would never fade away and he was a true “soul” star in every way. We had so much fun making that album, experimenting in London and Paris. I am very proud of the music we made to this day. Hall & Oates have a total connection with their audience’s hearts and their songs shall remain with those who love them forever.”
