In October 2009, Annie Lennox joined Aretha Franklin on stage in NYC for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert singing “Chain Of Fools”.

Finally their performance from the concert – one in a series to celebrate the history of rock, pop and soul music – is going to be released as part of a 3 DVD set on September 28, 2010, in the USA.

Dec 16: Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 25th Anniversary show on German TV

Next Wednesday, on December 16, highlights from the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 25th Anniversary concerts are going to be shown in a 125 min special program on German tv channel Kabel 1.

On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, 23:35 – 02:05, performances by Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, U2, Metallica and Aretha Franklin – hopefully including the duet “Chain Of Fools” of her with Annie Lennox – are going to be broadcasted. In the USA a 246 min special is broadcasted on HBO (shedule see here). Here’s next week’s program’s description in German:

Anlässlich des anstehenden 25. Jubiläums der ‘ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME’ veranstaltet die gleichnamige Stiftung ein Benefizkonzert, das Dimensionen sprengt. Im berühmten New Yorker ‘Madison Square Garden’ geben sich Musikergrößen wie ‘Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’, ‘Stevie Wonder’, ‘Simon & Garfunkel’, ‘Paul Simon’, ‘Crosby, Stills, Nash & Friends’ die Klinke in die Hand. ‘Sting’, ‘Billy Joel’, ‘U2′, ‘Aretha Franklin’ und ‘Metallica’ verwandeln die Nacht in einen unvergesslichen Abend.
Die ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’ wurde 1984 von Atlantic Records Gründer Ahmet Ertegun ins Leben gerufen, der in 2006 verstarb. Eine ihrer vielen Aufgaben ist es, wichtige Beiträge und einflussreiche Werke, die für Entwicklung und Werdegang des Rock & Roll maßgeblich sind und waren, zu bemessen und zu ehren. Jedes Jahr wird nur eine begrenzte Anzahl neuer Mitglieder in die ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ aufgenommen, wobei die Mitgliedschaft nur unter strengen Auflagen gewährt wird. So kann die Aufnahme frühestens 25 Jahre nach Veröffentlichung des ersten Tonträgers des Künstlers erfolgen.
Ein viertel Jahrhundert nach ihrer Gründung feiert die ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’ sich selbst auf ganz besondere Art und Weise. Künstler spielen Songs von und mit anderen Musikern: Ein gerührter Stevie Wonder, der ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ des kürzlich verstorbenen Michael Jackson performt, Art Garfunkel, der Paul Simon ‘on stage’ zu ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ begleitet und ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen zusammen mit Billy Joel auf der Bühne. Tomorrow, on November 29 at 8pm, a special four-hour program on HBO is presenting this autumn’s two huge concerts for the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York. The line-up was so amazing and it had Annie Lennox as a special guest on Aretha Franklin’s segmet of the concert singing “Chain Of Fools” with her!

“It’s the concert event of 2009! Many of the music world’s most luminous stars take the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden to celebrate a quarter century of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Featuring performances from two groundbreaking concerts to be held this October at Madison Square Garden, the special will be anchored by iconic musicians that include Jeff Beck Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Aretha Franklin, Metallica, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, U2 and Stevie Wonder, among others. October 30: Annie Lennox joins Aretha Franklin live at Madison Square Garden

“It gives us great pleasure to announce that Annie Lennox will join Aretha Franklin and Lenny Kravitz on stage for the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert to be held in Madison Square Gardens, New York on 30th October 2009.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was formed in 1983. One of the Foundation’s many functions is to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll by inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This very special 25th Anniversary concert is held over two nights (29th and 30th October). Each night will highlight different artists that will not only celebrate their music, but invite musical guests to join them onstage for what will be two unforgettable evenings with unique collaborations.
